- Description
Synaesthesia is a neurological condition in which stimulation of one sensory pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in another. People who report such experiences are known as synaesthetes, and some, can hear in colour.
“8-bit Synaesthete”, Directed by James Murphy, is a digital realisation of this condition through musical performance and projected 8-Bit colour that takes place over 3 nights and in 3 stages. The installation features musicians Mark Scheibe (DE), Tomas Nochteff (ARG), Moss Beynon Juckes (UK), Olaf Boqwist (DE) and Sofia Gieysztor (PL) performing compositions ranging in style from classical to experimental electronica.
1: Audio-Visual Installation — A series of musical performances are translated visually as a devised synaesthetic language in real-time.
2: Public Installation — This experimental installation will visualise the sound of the surrounding streets and allow for public interaction.
3: Exhibition — The culminating exhibition will comprise of artworks created as a result of the musical performances in stage 1 displayed as a sequence of snapshots rather than a continuous stream, and coupled with audio and video playback of the original performances, they will elucidate viewers to the extent of the relationship between both stimuli.
