Frances Tanzer’s images are grounded in everyday experience. She uses humor to unpack and explicate the processes through which people narrate their lives. Youtube.com videos, shopping catalogues and her own private thoughts serve as as the platform for her observations. Tanzer divorces still images from these source materials in order to obscure their context and narrative. The resulting images occupy the space between confession and self-censorship. They present a series of non-narratives, in which beginnings, middles and ends overlap, intersect and become indistinguishable.

Frances Tanzer is a painter from Philadelphia. She studied studio art and history at University of Toronto. Her work has been exhibited in Toronto, New York and Philadelphia. (http://itwasfunnyinmyhead.tumblr.com/)
